Hunkkaar: The Roar is a six-episode courtroom drama that takes on a difficult subject: what happens when a teenager accuses a powerful spiritual leader of sexual assault?
Streaming on JioHotstar, the series follows 17-year-old Meenu Rawat as her allegation sets off a police investigation, courtroom battle and intense public scrutiny.
Aneet Padda leads the series as Meenu, bringing vulnerability and restraint to a young woman navigating a situation far bigger than herself. Raghubir Yadav is effective as the influential Baapji, gradually revealing the unsettling side of a man surrounded by unquestioning followers.
Fatima Sana Shaikh, as ACP Jasleen Soni, brings a controlled presence to the investigation, while Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Ram Kapoor add weight to the courtroom proceedings.
The writing works best when the series focuses on Meenu’s fight and the pressure surrounding her accusation. The screenplay moves between the investigation, courtroom drama, media attention and Meenu’s personal life, but some of these threads feel underdeveloped.
The pacing is mostly steady, although the narrative occasionally loses momentum as it shifts between its multiple storylines. The direction by Nitya Mehra and Karan D. Kapadia keeps the treatment grounded, while the restrained visual style suits the serious subject.

Yes, if courtroom dramas and socially relevant thrillers are your thing. Hunkkaar: The Roar has a strong premise and committed performances, particularly from Aneet Padda, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Raghubir Yadav. While the screenplay could have been tighter, the series remains engaging enough to hold your attention through its six episodes.
