Don’t Be Shy takes young love, friendship and the pressure to have life figured out and turns them into a coming-of-age romantic drama.
Directed by Sreeti Mukerji, the film follows Shy (Aarushi Bajaj), a college student whose carefully planned future falls apart after her boyfriend Mayank (Piyush Khati) breaks up with her.
What begins as a story of heartbreak gradually becomes a journey of self-discovery as Shy navigates friendship, ambition and the expectations she has placed on herself.
The film’s campus setting and youthful energy give it an easy charm, while the friendship between Shy and Tara (Bianca Arora) adds an interesting layer beyond the usual romantic triangle.
At the heart of the story is Shy’s struggle to separate what she genuinely wants from the life she has planned for herself.
Aarushi Bajaj carries the film with a performance that captures Shy’s confidence, insecurity and emotional immaturity without making her one-dimensional.
Ansh Duggal brings warmth and sincerity to Dhruv, while Bianca Arora makes Tara an engaging presence. Piyush Khati fits naturally into the role of Mayank, giving the central conflict enough weight.
The writing has a relatable premise, but the screenplay occasionally leans into familiar coming-of-age tropes. The first half establishes Shy’s world and relationships effectively, while the second half becomes slightly stretched as it works towards her emotional transformation.
Sreeti Mukerji keeps the film visually polished and maintains a breezy tone, while the music adds to its youthful atmosphere.
Should You Watch Don’t Be Shy?
If you enjoy coming-of-age stories built around relationships, friendship and self-discovery, Don’t Be Shy makes for an engaging watch. It may not reinvent the genre, but its young cast, relatable emotional core and warm storytelling work in its favour.
