There is a better film hiding inside Maa Behen. You can see it in the sibling rivalry, the family tensions, and the committed performances from Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, and Ravi Kishan. The film understands the messy dynamics that define many families and occasionally finds moments of genuine humour and emotion. Unfortunately, it only taps into that potential in flashes. What could have been a sharp and memorable family dramedy settles for something far more uneven.
At its heart, Maa Behen is about a family forced to face one another after years of emotional distance. The strongest moments come from these relationships. The sibling rivalry feels real, the arguments have weight, and the film occasionally captures the messy reality of family life. In those moments, the story feels honest and relatable.
Strong Performances Keep The Film Afloat
Triptii Dimri is easily the film’s biggest strength. She brings warmth, vulnerability, and charm to her role. Even when the screenplay slows down, she keeps the audience invested. Madhuri Dixit adds authority and screen presence, while Ravi Kishan brings energy whenever he appears. Together, the cast creates believable family chemistry that makes viewers care about the characters.
The writing, however, does not always support the performances. The screenplay introduces interesting conflicts but rarely explores them in enough detail. Several confrontations end too quickly, while some storylines feel unfinished. The film hints at bigger emotional moments and stronger comedy, but often chooses the safer route. As a result, the stakes never feel as high as they should.
Director Suresh Triveni shows flashes of the storytelling that made his earlier work memorable. There are moments of humour, emotion, and insight throughout the film. Yet Maa Behen struggles to balance its dark comedy and family drama. It often feels caught between two different films. Just when it seems ready to surprise the audience, it returns to familiar territory.

If you’re a fan of Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Ravi Kishan, or family dramas, Maa Behen is worth a watch. The performances are strong, and the family dynamics remain engaging throughout. However, viewers expecting a sharp and unpredictable dramedy may be left wanting more.
The disappointment isn’t that Maa Behen is a bad film. It’s that it keeps showing flashes of a better one. Those moments are enough to hold your attention, but not enough to make the film truly memorable.
