Remember how Season 2 ended? Sandeep Bhaiya, the man who once stayed up all night helping Abhilash prepare for his interview, filed a formal complaint against him. The tripod that laughed together, cried together and survived on chai and borrowed hope in the PG rooms of Mukherjee Nagar was falling apart. You closed that last episode with a knot in your stomach and one question on your mind: how did it come to this? Aspirants Season 3, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, answers that question. And the answer is going to hurt.
Abhilash Sharma is the District Magistrate of Rampur now. The boy who failed UPSC four times, who pushed away everyone who loved him in pursuit of that one dream, finally has the badge. But somewhere between the chai stalls of Rajinder Nagar and the closed-door meetings of Rampur, he changed. When Sandeep Bhaiya discovers that Abhilash awarded the Education Town project tender in Rampur to Guri’s company, he raises a formal nepotism inquiry. The system Abhilash once dreamed of fixing is now investigating him. And the gut punch nobody sees coming, the anonymous complaint that started everything, was quietly written by Dhairya, Guri’s wife, Abhilash’s ex, the woman who once knew him better than anyone. And then walks in Pawan Kumar, played by Jatin Goswami, DM of Sambhal, a Hindi medium boy from the same Mukherjee Nagar streets who clawed his way up without any of Abhilash’s advantages. In one of the best dialogues of the season, Pawan looks Abhilash in the eye and says, “Is Mahabharata ka Arjun hoon main.” Abhilash quietly replies, “Aur main Bhishma Pitamah.” That one exchange tells you everything about what Season 3 is really about.
Naveen Kasturia as Abhilash is no longer playing the underdog we were rooting for. He is playing the man that underdog quietly became, and that is a far more difficult and brave performance. Sunny Hinduja, as Sandeep Bhaiya, finally gets the season he deserved. After Season 2 painted him unfairly as a near villain, Season 3 restores his soul completely. He is not bitter; he is broken, and there is a big difference. Jatin Goswami as Pawan Kumar walks away with the entire season on his shoulders, messy, hungry, flawed and impossible not to love. Shivankit Singh Parihar as Guri, Namita Dubey as Dhairya and Abhilash Thapliyal as SK Sir remind you in every scene why this show was always about friendship first and ambition second. The tripod that started in a tiny Rajinder Nagar room has survived everything life threw at it. And Season 3 proves it will survive this too.
Aspirants Season 3 is not a comeback story. It is a mirror. The boy who once sat in a tiny Rajinder Nagar room dreaming of changing the system is now the system. And TVF dares to show you exactly what that looks like up close.
Three seasons in, TVF just pulled off their most shocking finale yet. You will not see it coming. You will not be okay after.
Stream it now on Amazon Prime Video.
