VIBE is the kind of action-comedy that knows exactly what it wants to be: loud, chaotic and thoroughly entertaining.
Directed by Kunal Kemmu, the film follows two ordinary friends who find themselves caught up in a dangerous mission, turning an otherwise serious situation into a steady stream of comic chaos. With Kunal Kemmu, Sparsh Shrivastava and Preity Zinta leading the cast, VIBE delivers an entertaining theatrical ride, especially through its first half.
Kunal Kemmu plays Hardik, while Sparsh Shrivastava is Bugs, his equally unlikely partner in this unexpected mission. The duo’s chemistry is one of the film’s biggest strengths, with Kemmu’s comic timing doing much of the heavy lifting.
Preity Zinta, as the sharp and capable Madam H, brings a different energy to the madness. The performances work best when the actors lean into the film’s absurdity rather than trying to make its situations feel overly serious.
The writing is strongest when VIBE stays in its comic zone. The first half rarely gives you a dull moment, with the humour flowing naturally through the situations and performances. Special marks for the opening credits, which are creatively designed and immediately establish the film’s playful tone.
However, the screenplay briefly loses its rhythm in the second half, particularly during an approximately 10-minute stretch spent establishing the plot. The shift makes the film feel noticeably less funny before it finds its groove again.
Kunal Kemmu’s direction otherwise keeps the pace lively, while the action and production design complement the film’s larger-than-life comic treatment.
Should You Watch VIBE?
Yes, if you’re looking for a light, entertaining theatrical watch with plenty of humour. VIBE isn’t consistently flawless, but Kunal Kemmu’s comic timing, the chemistry between the leads and its inventive humour make it an enjoyable ride.
The first half is particularly strong, even if the screenplay briefly stumbles in the second half.
